Westerbeek’s chocolate shop is 102 years old! Nico Fernandes is now the owner, but the Baton Café, the Roma and the Irish Coffee where already made by the founder. Nico developed the Noisette and the Noir himself. He has very high standards and you can taste that! He also invented the orange slice dipped in chocolate. He showed us a large box of 5 kg of Callebout chocolate, that is where everything starts. Nico makes 30 different chocolates with this.
He showed us how the chocolates are made: he makes the filling and leaves it to set overnight, then pipes it into its final shape and covers it with chocolate. The Westerbeek chocolates cost € 4,95 per 100 gram and the orange costs € 5,80 per 100 gram.

In 2012, Luc Blok won the prize for Ice cream salon of the year for the second time in a row. Which is quite something and of course we were there. A cup of coffee and a tiny little ice cream on a hot Spring day melted our resolve. They have a fantastic assortment, we tasted melon ice cream and could not believe our eyes there was so much to choose form. The ice cream is made fresh daily.
If you are too chic to stand on the street licking an ice cream, you can go to Broeders, the Landbouw and even the Golfclubs Rozenstein and Groendael; they all have Luciano’s ice cream on the menu.

A tasty shop, when you walk in you smell the chocolate. You can also sit down and have a coffee with a chocolate. They also do high tea. We bought some delicious Belgian chocolates, one with red pepper! Every two months they have an exposition by various artists.

After a good espresso we had a browse around the shop and we found various chocolate such as New Tree, Lindt, Räusch. We bought some chocolate with quinoa, a very original combination. They sell the well known Leonidas chocolates.
There are many different varieties of tea and coffee on offer and they also carry their own brand.
At the back of the shop they have the complete collection of Crabtree and Evelyn in addition to cups from Pimpernel, mugs from Koziol and various articles from Bodum.
Their collection of teapots alone is well worth the visit.
We also found some jams by Mrs Bridges, Cantucinni and typically Dutch “stroopwafels” and biscuits from Walkers.
I am sure we have forgotten to mention something which is a good reason to pay them a visit and browse.
